What to do
- Check the internet works at all: open any website in a browser.
- Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data — restrictions often apply to one provider only.
- Turn on a proxy: tap “Connect” next to any proxy in the list below.
- If the proxy did not help, take another, preferably marked Fake TLS — those are harder to block.
- Update Telegram to the latest version: older versions work worse through proxies.
- Check the date and time on the device: with a wrong clock a secure connection cannot be set up.
Proxy or VPN?
A proxy works for Telegram only and leaves other apps alone: banking, maps and websites stay on your normal connection. A VPN routes all of the device’s traffic through another country. If you only need Telegram, a proxy is simpler and easier on the battery.
Do not turn on a proxy and a VPN at the same time: the connection goes through both, and Telegram gets slower.
The proxy is on but does not help
Free proxies are busy and short-lived. We re-check them all the time, but a proxy can stop working between checks. Keep two or three proxies in Telegram and switch if one drops.
